BigBand wins in Taiwan as QAM shipments reach half million mark
expansion

Taiwan's Chunghwa Telecom has selected BigBand Network's MSP2000 (Media Services Platform) to deliver advanced advertising video solutions on HD and standard definition, and content in both MPEG2 and H.264 for the operator's Multimedia-On-Demand (MOD) service, which had more than 700,000 subscribers at the end of 2008.
The deal marks BigBand's first international deployment for the company's MSP2000 product, which launched in September 2008, a network-based video platform designed to enable new service revenues from personalised video applications. The deployment will enable Chunghwa to deliver targeted advertising based on geographic and demographic information into linear television without requiring complex client operations in the STB. The telco will use the BigBand MSP2000 to monitor and track fulfilment information for feedback and campaign effectiveness.
Chunghwa offers phone, mobile, leased line, internet and other services to over 4.7 million subscribers, making it the country’s largest service provider.
Meanwhile, BigBand also announced that it has shipped 500,000 edgeQAMs, which the company believes is an industry first. Nearly 60 service providers worldwide have selected its platforms, including the current BEQ6000, for efficient and reliable delivery of advanced video and data services, supporting switched digital (SDV), broadcast, VoD and modular CMTS.
